The long overdue Westin Tashee Resort environment is here, be sure to check out on the suite that we stayed.  I’m sure that you will be interested in knowing what it looks like since I have more photos than the SPG site (here).

The hotel was still working on it’s hardware when I stayed.  I still managed to take some of the photos of the indoor facilities which includes the gym, the business center and the playroom. However, for the outdoor ones, most of them are still under constructions so I wasn’t able to snap them when I was there.  For what I know there is a gigantic chess board like the one in W Walkerhill, a poolside bar, swimming pool and a outdoor play area.

I strongly recommend this resort to anyone who is up for some relaxation away from the buzzing cities in Taiwan, passionate with golf or families with children.  Just bear in mind that this resort is quite out of the place, definitely not your airport hotel, I have been there done that.  Westin Tashee is an hour away from Taoyaun International Airport (TPE) and another hour away from Taipei city center, in addition, you don’t get any public transport to the city center nor the airport.  Westin was saying that they will have their hotel shuttle soon, but I couldn’t find anything on their site.

The staff from checkin was fairly experienced, he kinda avoided our questions in a nice way and handled most of the problem flawlessly, including delivering our late night snack from the bar when there weren’t any in room dining services.  Whereas, the check-out agent he needed an intensive SPG training, when he told me that there are no dining discount for SPG members because I’m getting 500 starpoints for my status and it’s way better that the 250 points for the next level down. And welcome drinks are only for GOLD members since they only gets 250 points.  I never know that 500 points are everything in the SPG world.

Talk about the environment, it can surely let you forget that you were in the buzzing city of Taiwan and feel like a getaway at a beach resort.  Yes! A beach is what it’s lacking, but it has a golf course next door to make up for it.

The business center has a wide range of book selection, and I can spend a day here.  Originally, they don’t let you bring the books to your room, our check-in agent was nice enough to let us took them up.

What makes this resort child friendly is the playroom.  It also offer a wide range of classes for the little ones, while parents spend their time at the gym or have a dip. They would need more staff to run the classes when business picks up.

I recommend this hotel if you want a weekend getaway in Taiwan, but if you are coming to Taiwan for holiday there are better hotels out there.

I stayed at the first Starwood Resort in Taiwan, back in the first week of Jan, 2016.  The Westin Tashee Resort has opened it’s doors since Christmas 2015.  We booked the opening special which includes breakfast for two and double starpoints if you are a SPG member.

I have a detailed blog on the hotel environment here (click here)

As the Platinum member of SPG, we were upgraded to the Family suite.  Our check-in agent told us that only 40% of the rooms were ready, and they were doing some final touches .

IMG_8160
IMG_8159

Our suite had a separate living area and a guest washroom, there was also a balcony looking out to the swimming pool and the gold course next door. The living area is well contained with a work station which has adequate stationaries.

The minibar we had in our suite was overheated, we had it changed once, but when we got our soymilk from it the next morning  our drinks were warm.  The engineer said it was probably the design of the cabinet which cause the problem.  They use the Illy coffee capsules machine here, the staff was willing to give us one extra capsule the next day after we finished the ones provided.

IMG_8155

Moving onto the bedroom area, as usual we have the heavenly bed from Westin which was as good as always. There was another balcony in the bedroom with the same view.  In-room dining wasn’t available at the time we stayed, due to the fact that they were waiting on their cutleries.

The bathroom was spacious, with a bathtub on the left and shower and toilet on the left.  Unlike other Starwood hotels which provides a set of luxury brand amenities for suites, Westin Tashee they have the Westin White Tea bath and body, the ones you get in any of the Westin hotels. They provides a bath loafer but not bath salt for bubble bath.

Upon check out, we found that the carpet wasn’t looking like it was the day before, vacuuming was needed.

W Taipei’s Little sister – Aloft Taipei ZhongShan 台北中山雅樂軒

Starwood has been working very hard to claim their territory in Taiwan, flagging two new places before we said good bye to 2015.

The hipster W claiming the CBD and now brought in the younger sister Aloft which situated on the other side of Taipei city.  Aloft located in one of the shopping and cafe hopping area, which is an ideal location for some younger travelers, and an alternative to the Four Points by Sheraton which is located far from city center.

Aloft doesn’t have a glamorous lobby likes others, a tiny weeny lobby with just a check-in area and nothing else, and using LEDs displays as decorations.  Upon arriving at the hotel I was greeted by name,  an agent from Four Points who still recognize me from 2 years ago. The checkin process took longer than usual, but very informative and immediate recognizing my SPG status.  Platinum member gets a free drink from W XYZ while their opening special offers free buffet breakfast from Re:fuel.  How chic kiddo roll, we “grab and go” from Re:fuel and partying with the latest music and DJ at W XYZ.

The modern styled room ain’t huge but it had everything needed.  When we mentioned that the paint smell was a bit strong in the room, they bought in an air purifier as soon as possible.  As a vision of W, Aloft offers Bliss amenities but a different line of product – Tired+Blue.  We did find that the bathtub was a little bit too shallow to our comfort and the air circulation of the the bathroom wasn’t that good.

The light switches panel was a memory game and trial and error.  No labeling or what so ever, it will take you a good 5 minutes to turn on your headlight or switch off the lights at night.

Our room had a balcony but we weren’t able to open the door, but we forgotten to ask about it upon check out.

Aloft is very convenient with MRT station and bus stops just 5 mins away, not to mention the famous Qingguang Market  down the block.  I personally recommend this market to all my friends over the infamous Shilin Night Market, in QingGuang you can find alot of traditional local eats like the tofu dessert, taiwanese style sandwiches, sesame chicken soup, LuWei, doughnut, wheelcake.  I am sure you will have a lots of fun exploring the area.

Hi, Sheraton Taipei, it has been a while ! – 台北喜來登

I used to stay at Sheraton Taipei all the time back in the days when it was the best Starwood hotel in Taipei.  After so many years, I set my foot into this hotel again.  This hotel is pretty popular among locals for it’s buffet restaurant, and I was greeted with a large crowd at the lobby upon check-in on the day.   I love the location of the hotel, it’s just outside the Shandao Temple station and next to the best breakfast place in taipei (阜杭豆漿). Sheraton is just one station away from Taipei Main station, so it’s pretty convenient.

Since I had a work function in their ballroom early in the morning, I was expecting a message from their Event team and there was nothing.  The check in agent was pretty helpful and helped me retrieved the information needed.   I was upgraded to the Executive floor, and as a SPG member I received a hand written message from their Director of Rooms.   I have a thing for all these personalized welcome cards, even though it is  a computerized message, still love seeing them upon check-in. However, Sheraton thinks that Patricia is a Mr.?? and I was referred as Mr.xxx on the card, on the phone, basically throughout my stay.  I found that it’s a common mistake in Taiwan, even it was clearly stated on my SPG profile.

Sheraton Taipei 台北喜來登

My room was around 35 sqm which is the same size as the normal deluxe room, but being up on the executive floors you get Sweet sleeper beds, Nesspersso and Heyland& Whittle amenities.  I would say the hotel is still in good shape, with some water stains here and there overall nothing too major.  I talked to Helen Huang, director of My Humble House Florist, she said that the hotel will undergo its renovation in 2017.

Like the other My humble house properties, Sheraton Taipei provides those comfy cushioned slippers and I think it runs in the company which they tend to provide them in 2 different sizes in your room.  Whereas, in other hotels you get them in one size and of course you can always ask for the kiddo slippers.

I love the Sweet Sleepers in Sheraton hotels, but I wasn’t too sure about the ones in  Sheraton Taipei.  I toss and turn while I sleep and from time to time my back hurt because I slept right on the frame.  The next morning I decide to dig into this and found that my bed was actually two singles pushed together, that’s why I was sleeping on the metal frame through out the night.  My friend and I agreed that next time we gotta request a full king size bed.

Sheraton Taipei 台北喜來登 Sheraton Taipei 台北喜來登

It was funny how Sheraton Taipei issues a lending note for every single items you borrow from them, I guess the hotel must had a bad experience of guests not returning the items.

Overall, I had a pleasant stay and I found their HOTEL staff are pretty helpful.  The not-so-pleasant matter appear after I checked out, we were doing a rehearsal at their ballroom and after that we found out that the event team has been gossiping about us and making it a big deal with the PR company.  My supervisor wasn’t too happy about this and Helen Huang reassured us that it won’t happen again. Can’t wait till my next stay in two weeks time and hopefully the event team will be as helpful as the hotel staff.

Back in the years when Grand Hyatt was the one and only choice in XinYi Dist., then came Le Meridien and W Taipei.  After Starwood dominates the battlefield a more affordable option joined the gang – Home Hotel.  Now, we welcome Le Meridien and Sheraton Taipei’s sister hotel Humble House, who had it’s grand opening on 27th December just a few days before I checked in.  Assuming both Le Meridien and Sheraton belong to the Starwood chain which Humble House will happily join the big family, oops I was wrong.  I still remembered the face of Benny Tsai (Chairman of  My Humble House Group) when I asked him “does Humble House belong to Starwood?” he was like had you ever heard of any properties call Humble House outside of Taiwan?

Being the first local hotelier who has two top notch hotels in the same district, to be exact they are adjacent to each other. Humble House continues the modern vibes and classiness of Le Meridien, later on, XinYi Breeze will operate on the same property just like Hankyu and W Taipei.Humble House - 寒舍艾麗酒店 Humble House - 寒舍艾麗酒店 Humble House - 寒舍艾麗酒店

Just like Le Meridien, it’s artsie from the lobby to guest rooms.  You can find yourself surrounded by art pieces wherever you go, and most of them are LED artworks.  I had to admitted that it is the first time I came face to face with these modernized art pieces and I found them very eye opening.  They do offer an art tour on daily basis just like an art museum and they have not less than 60 pieces of art work in the hotel, be sure to check with guest service if you want a tour while you stay with them.  Check in is located on the 6th floor and ground floor is pretty low key, you can’t even tell it’s a hotel lobby with 2 elevators and one guest service counter.

I was told by their reservation staff that I should check in earlier that day since there will be traffic control, when my friend checked in around 3:30 she was told that the room wasn’t ready.  When we went back for our room key later that day, I mentioned I requested late check out while I made the reservation.  The reply was “Normally we can do late check out at 12:00, but since we gave you your room key at 7:30 we can extend it to 1:00.” I was like “Errrr!”

Humble House do have alot of greeting staff, they show you your way and direct you what to do.  I do find them quite attentive and willing to help.

Humble House has an Italian restaurant – La Farfalla , a Bar – The Terrace, a spa, a gym and an outdoor swimming pool (still under construction).  The gym is fairly tiny and I do mean it, which only fits 5 pieces of gym equipment.

You need to beep your room card in order to get to your floor which I prefer over the ones you have to swipe your card.  My friend did comment on the card sleeve being too tight which made it really hard to get the room card out.  The rooms were not as spacious as W Taipei but similar to Le Meridien, we stayed at the Premier King Room (36 sq meter ) Upon entering into the room on the right hand side was a long corridor of mirrors with wardrobe hidden in there and a dressing table at the end.  On your left hand side, there were mini bar, fridge and your Nespresso machine, not to mention that they use Ritzenoff’s My little Darling coffee set here.

There were mirror walls everywhere in the room, to give you a more spacious perception.  The full length mirror sliding doors were kinda hard to lock.  The bathroom was relatively big in terms of the room size.  I wished that I had time to soak myself in one of the Lush sweet smelling bubble bath before we went to the count down party.  They used their own branded amenities, we don’t mind them just that the hair conditioner wasn’t doing what it supposes to do.  You can tell that Humble House think in their guest’s shoes they even put an English translation signage for their Japanese Toto smart toilet remote control. Their bath robe is quite cuddly I would want to take it home if it’s in white.

Our room ain’t facing 101 but the Shin Kong building as well as a sneak peek of Neo 19.  It had a bright red sofa in contrast with the mirror and white interior.  It had what a hotel room should equip from stationaries to DVD player.  I don’t know had you ever encountered that when you needed tissue and the one and only place with it was the bathroom which was occupied,  how you wished that you have a box  in the room.  Humble House thinks the way I think they have one box right next to the Sealy posturepedic mattress Woah !! Love it !!

Watch out for my first meal of 2014 @ La Farfalla and

Stayed at W Hong Kong for my birthday weekend, and I was spoiled !!!

Upon my arrival at the hotel, I was greeted with a warm welcome and birthday wishes.  You guys made my day.

Long story short, clumsy me dropped my beloved iPhone down to the rail of the Airport express train and didn’t realize it until I was on the train.  I contacted MTR staff they said they can only get it when it’s home time for the trains. NOOOOO was my answer, I landed on the soil like 1 hr ago and u tell me I am gonna be phoneless for the rest of the day? I was whining to my friend, who works at W Hong Kong, and their SPG specialist and whatever whenever staff heard me and helped.  They managed to get my phone back within 1 hr.  Hands down Whatever Whenever!!

Highlight of the whole trip was my Wowvelous  surprise birthday party, from my dearest friends to all the staff @ W Hong Kong seems like everyone knew abut my party, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!!! I had a fabulous time and I love you all.Preparing a surprise party wasn’t an easy task all these emails going back and forth, even the general manager wanna meet me I think she was gonna meet upon check-in but I got carry away with my phone.

I was upgraded to the Fantastic Suite just like last time, a room that was spacious enough for me as I wasn’t expecting myself to spend much time in it LOL I ended up in the room for my entire trip.

After checked-in I quickly freshen up and prepared for day number 1 of my busy schedule. While I was in my room, I had different welcome staff called and asked me random questions for the entire time and I was like humph.. I am very busy.  Later on, I found out that it was my friends wanting to decorate my room so they gotta make sure that I am not in.

When I returned to W after dinner my room was filled with my beloved friends, helium balloons, Hello Kitties, my latest love Moët Rosé Impérial, presents and cake.

On my actual birthday, whenever and wherever I went everyone wished me “Happy birthday!”.  I had breakfast with my best friend, and followed by a lovely lunch with the W Insider.  She told me all about my surprise party and how frustrated she was when I cancelled my Bliss spa appointment, keep changing the name of my guest, being bitchy towards the party organizer since she was safeguarding my privacy and her little trick on sending me a personal email asking about my stay.  Wahahaha I am sorry Bliss spa and SPG service center if the W Insider was giving you a hard time.

Girl, you always makes me laugh, and LOL I will send you some 無老鍋 next time.  Time flies when you were having a nice long girls talk, and that concluded my stay @ W Hong Kong.

I am so gonna make it to Bliss Spa for my next stay and keep rocking, W Hong Kong

Love y’all xxx

Goodbye Melbourne – Stamford Plaza Melbourne

Stamford Plaza

111 Little Collins St., Melbourne

Stamford Plaza (Auckland)  used to be my favorite hangout back in the days in Uni, their club sandwich was the best companion for my best friend and I while we were on study break.

The stay at Stamford was an accident as we were purpose to stay at Blackman for two nights.  Stamford Plaza was the one and only five stars hotel which was available for the night, and it’s located on Little Collins Street, a few blocks away from Westin.  Stamford is slightly older than Blackman and Westin. We stayed at the one bedroom suite, and it had a little pantry.  We didn’t spend much time in the room anyways and after our Lush bubble bath we dozed off into our sweet dreams.  Try not to get the rooms next to the emergency exit as they could get a little bit noisy since their staff go in and out through there.  Like most of the hotels in Melbourne they don’t provide dental sets and NOTE that they sell you the Colgate toothbrush and toothpaste here, but not a free amenity.

can’t wait to travel with my sisters again!!! How about Singapore this year??

Wow!!! What a speechless stay – Marvelous suite @ W Taipei Part II

Marvelous suite Part I (click here)

My love for the “W” brand started here and it ends here. I was sick and tired to notify the management team everyday what surprises my room had given me.

W Taipei W Taipei W Taipei W Taipei

Day 2

I was greeted by the W insider and their Director of Rooms at Woo Bar while i had my breakfast, we had a long talk.  When I returned to my room that day the sinks were sparkling clean, a tea set from Yen was waiting in the lounge and a huge Gummy Bear arrangement on my bed. I do prefer the salami and cheese plate more than this tea set, anyhow thanks for the compensation for our missing welcome plate.

Day 3

Typhoon hit Taipei so everyone stayed in the hotel.  We headed down to Kitchen Table for our breakfast, and there were queues everywhere.  Queue waited to be seated, queue for  food, queue for egg station and queue for people complaining why they needed to sit over at Woo Bar.  It was obvious that they don’t have enough staff to handle the guests they have in the restaurant.  Jams and spread area was empty when I was hoping to have a Nutella toast.  I stood in front of the french toast tray for 10 mins just to get someone to refill the maple syrup, and I ended up telling one of the waiter that I want some syrup but couldn’t manage to get the chef’s attention.  In addition, a big mixed up for my aunt’s mushroom and chives omelette, it came in as a mushroom eggroll.  They offered to make her another, and she ended up with a mushroom, chives and ham omelette.  I don’t really understand this at all, they had a waitress stood there for order taking and all she had to do was to tick off the ingredients and put the table number on.

Food wise, I still love their ice-cream and their large selection of veggie.  Since I had only had the Sunday brunch at W Hong Kong, it wasn’t fair to do a direct comparison.  My uncle and auntie highly recommended their noodles bar while my little cousin loved their steam egg. I was surprise by the way they make their hot chocolate, basically it is Toblerone and hot milk nom nom 🙂

Since it was typhoon day, my uncle headed back to Le Meridien while we went back to our room.  We were surprise to see a stylist was styling our room, I told him in Chinese that could he come back later to finish it off , since we will head over to LM in the afternoon.  “I only have to do the towels then it’s done, don’t need to come back in the afternoon.”  I let him put in fresh towels and later on I found out he didn’t refill my coffee capsules, no new towels for the guest bathroom, didn’t refill the cotton balls and makeup remover and he put a set of small travel size Bliss amenities but not the big bottles for suites, on top of that I want a new set of bed linens too. He claimed that he finished with it, the new part-time talents W employs all have an attitude.

I was running a temperature that afternoon and instead of staying at LM, I decided to head back to W and ask them to style my room again while I had a nap on the sofa, this time they had a team of 4-5 stylists to style my room and the finish product was what I call a clean.  When I woke up, I found a leak by the window and though it might not be serious so I gave it a wipe.  30 mins later, it was a big puddle again so I gave W insider a call and have her to come look at it and immediately she offered to block another suite for me incase they couldn’t fix it.  I said no to the move as I had all my stuff out and it would be hard to move everything.

Day 4

I was out the entire day, and once I went back to the hotel their Welcome AM said he had been waiting for me for the entire day , coz he was the one I contacted a month earlier telling him what I want for my room and everything.  He helped me alot during my pervious stays and he knows me well, basically he explained everything to me.  Once he learned that I was late for the dinner reservation and my two little cousins were still napping in the room, he offered us dinner @ Yen.  He got us a table, ordered the food and made sure everything were smooth, in the mean time, he popped up to Yen from time to time.  This was the only time that my uncle wan’t complaining but complimented on the Peaking Roast Duck.  The entire dinner was nice and pleasant with a team of proactive staff, even though we were asked “Is everything OK? ” for more than 10 times throughout the dinner, this was why I used to like W Taipei as everyone was so helpful and friendly.

W TaipeiW TaipeiW TaipeiW TaipeiW TaipeiW Taipei

After dinner at Yen everyone was in a good mood.  Unfortunately, when we went back to our room we found that the new duvet cover was torn.  A five stars hotel suite and they gave us an old and ragged duvet cover??? Are they that short of money???

W Taipei

Day 5

Our last day at the hotel, I was hoping for a good day since the sun was out.  The Kitchen Table was way quieter than the typhoon day, food trays were all full and the table side snacks were back.  Everything were impressive before the incident with my omelette, I ordered it when I arrived.  I waited and waited until my aunt and uncle’s eggs arrived and they ordered after me (around 15mins) , but still no sign of mine.  When I asked the waitress she said they were making mine.  10mins later, she came back and said “I just want to confirm what filling did you order?” Comeon, if you were making mine then why you come and confirm my order 10 mins later, and why couldn’t you just admit that you sent it to the wrong person or you didn’t make mine.  Just when my egg arrived, the air con above me started to drip, what a good way to start my day.

We had a swim while Mister Sun was out.  Just a few hours before checkout, we had thunderstorm in Taipei and our room was leaking again!!!!

I called the Welcome AM and he came up personally to have a look.  He said he was very sorry and speechless with my room’s condition.  He wasn’t as bubbly as the day before and I could feel that he didn’t know what to do to, and he did want me to walk out the door happily.  When I told W insider about the leak and my duvet cover, she said “I am speechless.”

What an unbelievable stay!!! My all time favorite becomes the least favorable on the list, even though they were still mentioning that I should have my birthday at W Taipei they will make it as memorable as last time.  Sorry, W Taipei I will make a pass this year, and it will be a surprise me W Hong Kong .

W Taipei

I stayed at W Taipei for twice in the same week.  Haven’t been to W Taipei for a long time, and it was good to be back once in a while.

This suite is around 90 sqm and it was nice and spacious, should be enough for a party around 10 people.  The Marvelous suite is similar to the fantastic suite @ W Hong Kong (click here) .   The first stay was pleasant and enjoyable while the second stay started with a terrible check-in, three more nights to go hopefully it will get better.  It might be the fact that I was checked in by one of the more experienced Welcome staff for the first stay, she even gave us a call when the room was ready.  On the other hand, I was staying with my little cousin so I asked for a suite upgrade once I made the reservation (I don’t usually ask for a suite upgrade, but I want my little cousin to have more space to run around, so I asked for one this time and FAILED).  Worst case scenario, we weren’t even upgraded to Marvelous but only the Fabulous ROOM that we paid for,  fine I was gonna said ok to the Fabulous!! Almost all of the experienced welcome talents know that I am very particular with my hotel room, I like my room up on 30th floor facing the DaZhi and Neihu, but this time the put me on 27th floor. At the end, they managed to come up with a Marvelous suite on 15th floor, not impressed but better than nothing.  Why in the first place we were told that all the suites were sold out??

The room itself was great but it was just the services from their  staff , and with my recent stay @ W Hong Kong where it had great recognition for Platinum members with their SPG specialist.  W Taipei is miles behind on this.  The welcome agent for my first stay asked what do I want for my welcome gift, on the other hand, for my second stay he didn’t even mention about welcome gift. When I made a call down to Whatever/Whenever stating that I want breakfast for the welcome gift, they questioned didn’t I choose it upon check-in.

The welcome agent for my second check-in even asked me a very stupid question, “So you prefer speaking English rather than Chinese? ” when I spoke to him in English at all time.  Can’t you just provide the 5 Stars services and stop worrying what language I speak. He had passed his probation since he was wearing a silver W pin not a purple one.

Let’s talk about the room, greeted by the W Dragon at the door along with a guest bathroom, they use the Panasonic toilet here where in W Hong Kong they use ToTo

followed by the spacious lounge with a LG TV not even one piece of B&O is spotted in this room. For my second stay I didn’t even get my welcome plate of salami and cheese, not even a sight of the tiny bag of Tiny Gummy Bears.  Compare to W Hong Kong, Singapore, Guangzhou, Paris and Sheraton Macao‘s welcome plates came with a warmest greeting card.

credited to the the W Signature bed, I had  very good sleeps thru out my first stay, hopefully it will be the same for my current one.

One and only one thing that W Taipei beats the others is it’s view from the bath tub. But the sinks on my second stay not even cleaned probably and they were stained.

I took all the pictures during my first stay except for the closeups on the stained sinks

An Aussie escape – Blackman Hotel Melbourne

Blackman Hotel - Melbourne

The Blackman Hotel

452 St Kilda Rd  Melbourne

+61 3 9039 1444

The last few weeks have been a bomb, finally I have some time for myself.  Melbourne is way busier than Auckland and it’s transportation system is extremely complicated.  The tram rides were very intense, we had to count the stations so that we did not miss our stop.  I guess I have been living in the desert New Zealand for too long.

We planned to stay at the Blackman hotel for two nights, however, for some reason this hotel freaked us out and we made reservation at the Stamford immediately.  When I looked back at the photos today, it wasn’t that freaky at all honestly I have no idea what happened on that day.  We arrived at the hotel with the famished shell and it was all dark outside.  The hotel has over-whelmed art works, they are everywhere and I mean it.

We couldn’t find any decent restaurants around the hotel, therefore we ended up with frozen meals from Coles and thank goodness that we have a microwave in our room.  The room itself wasn’t overly huge but just enough for two people, and it has two balconies. It was too spooky to go out to the balcony at night, so we snapped a pic or two before rushing out in the morning.  Usually, we stay at Starwood Hotels who  allow us to have late check -out till 4/5:00 pm, without knowing that the usual check out time is 11:00am.  We were shocked to find out when the font desk called in the morning and that ended our stay.
